The growing population across the globe is creating a mounting challenge for food producers. By the year 2050, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) predicts there will be 9.6 billion people on this planet, which will require a 70 percent increase in food production. Adding to the challenge are the environmental constraints growers face today, including the limited availability of suitable land, the scarcity of fresh water and unpredictable weather patterns. While these problems exist on a global scale, it is possible for agronomists and local farmers to rise to the challenge by taking advantage of today’s ag technology to improve operations, enhance crop yield, reduce water consumption and increase profits.
